Jennifer Love Hewitt was born to Patricia Mae nee Shipp, a speech-language pathologist and Herbert Daniel Hewitt, a medical technician. Jennifer Love has an older brother named Todd Hewitt. Her parents separated when she was six months old. She and her older brother were both raised by her mother in Nolanville, Texas.
Jennifer Love Hewitt discovered her singing talents early in her childhood. At the age of three she sang, 'The Greatest Love of All' at a livestock event. By the time she reached five, Jennifer is already a top tap dancer. At ten, Jennifer competed at the talent scout event and won the 'Texas Our Little Miss Talent' title and moved to Los Angeles in search of an acting and singing career. She soon found a role on Disney Channel's "Kids Incorporated" {3 episodes: 1989-1991} and went on to appear as a child star in television dramas such as "Running Wilde" {1992}, Fox's "Shaky Ground" {8 episodes: 1992-1993}, ABC's "The Byrds of Paradise" {7 episodes: 1994}, "McKenna" {3 episodes: 1994-1995}.
